    Alexis Sanchez overcomes 'terrible' ankle injury to take part in Chile training ahead of World Cup qualifier;

  • -alexis Sanchez injured his right ankle during Arsenal's defeat by West Brom
  • -Arsene Wenger feared he had suffered a severe injury at The Hawthorns
  • -But Sanchez returned to Chile for international duty and took part in training
  • -Chile play Argentina in Buenos Aires on Thursday, then Venezuela at home

  • He was a doubt for Chile's matches after Arsenal feared he had suffered a severe injury

    Alexis Sanchez was among the Chile stars who took part in training on Tuesday as he looks to overcome the 'terrible' ankle injury sustained at the weekend.

    The unsettled Arsenal star suffered the injury during the first half of Saturday's 3-1 defeat at West Brom and was eventually substituted by Arsene Wenger.

    Gunners manager Wenger later said Sanchez's ankle was 'in a terrible state' and it was feared he would miss Chile's upcoming fixtures.

    But the former Barcelona attacker appears to have shaken off the knock as he took part in Chile training ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifiers.

    They travel to South American rivals Argentina on Thursday before returning home to host Venezuela next Tuesday.

    And Sanchez looks likely to star in those matches after travelling to Santiago to link up with his international team-mates.
    The 28-year-old took part in various drills as he bids to help Chile secure their place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

    There were concerns Sanchez could miss Chile's World Cup qualifier against Argentina

    He was a doubt for Chile's matches after Wenger feared he had suffered a severe injury at The Hawthorns.

    Speaking after the Premier League loss, he said: 'He was injured from the tackle in the first half. It's a bad tackle. His ankle is in a terrible state.
    'He should not have played in the second half. He insisted that he wanted to come out

    'In the first half he was the one who created the chances, many dangerous situations, and you could see in the second half he couldn't anymore. In the end we had to take him off but he should not have even played.

    'Chile goes to Argentina for a massive game but it's not until next week,' Wenger added. 'If it's only a kick he will play.
    'His ankle is swollen. If the ligament is damaged he will not play.'
