Leo Messi’s FIFA ban
Jeez. That escalated quickly.
Tuesday began with reports coming out of South American that Leo Messi could receive an international ban.
The Barcelona star is in trouble after he abused two officials during last week’s World Cup qualifier against Chile. Argentina won 1-0 to get their qualification process back on track.
As for Chile, they slipped down to sixth in the table, and it was La Roja who prompted FIFA into taking action against Messi, not the officials.
Word initially came out on Tuesday afternoon that Messi would miss tonight’s qualifier away in La Paz, Bolivia, but it’s got much worse.
How many games?
FIFA have slapped Messi with a four game ban.
Aside from missing the Bolivia game, he’ll also miss matches against Uruguay, Venezuela and Peru.
Argentina had already named their team of the clash against Bolivia. It seems likely Sergio Aguero will replace Messi in the starting XI.
Unsurprisingly, many have reacted to the Messi ban, and a lot of people think it’s a ridiculous decision.
Have FIFA gone too far?
