Bastian Schweinsteiger’s Man United career is over
Long overdue, German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger is finally ending his difficult spell at Man United.
Bastian Schweinsteiger has been virtually anonymous at Old Trafford this season, as he’s been unable to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s first team plans.
The 32-year-old was under contract until 2018, but it’s now been confirmed that he’s cutting that stay short.
In recent weeks rumours have been swirling that Schweinsteiger is heading to the MLS, and now the Chicago Tribunehas confirmed the midfielder is joining the Chicago Fire.
Cue the quotes
Chicago Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez has confirmed the Schweini deal:
The German midfielder won the World Cup with his nation at the 2014 edition in Brazil
We’re adding someone who has won at every level, including the very highest levels, and has done so in a way that is consistent with our values.

Schweinsteiger has also given the following quotes to the Chicago Tribune:
Throughout my career, I’ve always sought opportunities where I hoped to make a positive impact and to help make something great.
My move to Chicago Fire is no different. Through my conversations with [general manager Nelson Rodriguez] and Pauno, I’m convinced by the club’s vision and philosophy and I want to help them with this project.
