More foreign players
Chelsea are preparing themselves to be hit harder by Brexit than any other Premier League club, after Article 50 was officially triggered, and the exit from the EU officially started.
The Blues will suffer given they have a higher proportion of foreign players than any other side in the top flight, with 273 appearances by players who are in danger of being impacted by a hard Brexit – 74% of the total appearances from all players this season.
No other club in the top flight has a higher ratio of appearances to EU players this season, and a larger percentage of EU players have scored for Chelsea than any other club.
It doesn’t come as much of a shock to see Manchester City, West Ham and Arsenal make up the top four (because of course Arsenal have to be in fourth), and the clubs are all preparing themselves for future trouble.
Summer transfers
It’s not thought that the potential exit from the EU will have a huge impact on clubs and who they chose to buy come the summer, with the boards preferring to get their top targets and then face whatever difficulties and consequences they have to.
As for the players, it’s not really known how the players will respond to any potential troubles, but clubs may become slightly nervous if it seems that players are avoiding the Premier League in case of potential Brexit sanctions.
