Confederations Cup champions TP Mazembe have appointed Frenchman Thierry Froger as new head coach.
Thierry will be in charge until the end of December after an agreement with club boss Moise Katumbi, who is in exile in the UK.
The 53-year-old agreed in principal to take over the reins at the Lubumbashi side in a move to ensure continuity after the departure of Hubert Velud.
Thierry will take over from fellow countryman Velud, who ditched the club in a huff and joined Tunisia’s Etoile Du Sahel at the end of 2016 season after guiding them to 2016 Confederations Cup glory and a domestic league triumph.
A defender in his playing days with Lille, Le Mans and Genoble, Thierry is not new to Africa, having handled Togo’s Sparrow Hawks between 2010 and 2011. His last post as coach was with Creteil (2014-15) in the French third division.
He will fly to South Africa on Wednesday to watch Mazembe take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the Caf Super Cup on Saturday, 18 February in Pretoria before he officially takes over on the team’s return to the DRC.
