From Mbeya to Dar in a bicycle to raise road safety awareness

Dar es Salaam. He braved all kinds of weather – from cold temperatures to humid conditions – cycling nearly 1,000 kilometres from Mbeya to Dar es Salaam.

A Mbeya resident, Mr Wiseman Luvanda, decided to travel using his bicycle from his native Region to Dar to raise road safety awareness among Tanzanians.

During his seven days campaign, Mr Luvanda made several stops along the way before he this morning arrived in Dar.

Mr Luvanda told travellers at Ubungo Bus Terminal where a function to welcome him was held that the most dangerous thing he observed during his trip was reckless driving by motorcycle riders.

He hailed the Traffic Police noting that their efforts have helped to control bus drivers. He urged the government to further equip the Traffic Unit with modern tools and equipment to further improve road safety.

“However, I noticed speeding bus drivers here and there but I think the police and various road safety campaigns are working because the speeding incidents are decreasing among passenger busses and that is why I am here safe otherwise I would been knocked. I would like to appeal to every Tanzania to report whenever noting an errant driver,” he said.
